For the spring “semester” of weekly listening, we’ll be looking at composers whose last names begin with S from places that begin with S.
This week, we’re listening to Zoran Simjanovic, from Serbia. He composes primarily cinematic music, dabbling a little bit in theatre music, and he founded and composed for several famous Yugoslavian rock bands.
He is currently a professor of Musical Arts and Scenic Arts in Belgrade, and although not known for his “Classical” music, his first symphony was premiered in 2006 – noted as the first symphony to be composed and performed in the independent Republic of Serbia.
He is considered primarily a scenic composer, he experiments with a lot of styles, though his music is primarily electronic based.
